Have Windows 8 and Photobucket fighting me but trying to get pics up!

Aside from the obvious engine problems after the track day I realised the Y1 LSD gearbox was not up to the job, the ratios were very bad for track, the standard diff wasnt up to the job really and there was very bad grinding through all the gears!

I had considered a rebuild but this would take a while and still wouldnt be ideal ratios, hydraulic conversions to a newer Type R would work but I dont really like the feel of some conversions and Id prefer to stay cable cause Im odd like that so left with only one option..

YS1 gearbox from a 92/93 DA6 Integra
From factory the ratios are not exactly what I wanted and has an open diff but the casing itself is the important part.. These use the newer type internals and clutch splines inside a cable operated gearbox.. These are the gearbox of choice in both the Js Racing and SS Works CRX so thats good enough for me..

I managed to source a YS1 from a friend of mine, it was split and I got it all in a plastic crate but I was told everything was there so was happy enough here is just layed together not to loose anything.

Lucky another friend had just started to strip a car and had the perfect internals to drop into my housing so loaded the whole lot up and went to his to build the gearbox:

Here is the standard diff from the ys1 on the left and the new LSD from a 98 spec Integra Type R (with 4.7 final drive)

To fit this the housing needed to be shaved back so out with the grinder and shaved off the fins by the out put to the drives:

Next I swapped in the main and counter shaft from a 96 spec Integra Type R and with a bearing puller removed 5th gear and swapped in a 98 spec 5th for a longer ratio crusing gear on motorway etc..

That was pretty much all that was to be done in swapping over I was pretty surprised.. So sealed and bolted up the whole lot put on the clutch mechanism, mounting plate, brackets, VSS and reverse sensor off my Y1 gearbox and gave it a quick clean up ready for refitting:

Unfortunately this setup will no longer work with the cable clutch disk so after only a few thousand KMs out came the XTD setup and picked up a new Exedy Stage 2 clutch and pressure plate ment for an Integra Type R:

Nice kit and came with a release bearing too that unfortunately wouldnt fit either as it was for the hydro box so used the original OEM release bearing from my Y1 again.. One thing when fitting though I didnt have a clutch alignment too so was very proud of my DIY alternative:

3/8" 10mm long reach socket pushed into an 3/8" 18mm Plug socket..
This fitted the bearing and disk perfect so made bolting it up very easy

So all torqued fired it back in ha ha

And then filled with Land Rover MTF

Now my Gearbox/Transmission setup is
YS1 Casing
96 Spec ITR 1-4th
98 Spec ITR 5th and 4.785 Final Drive
ITR LSD
Exedy Stage 2 Clutch
Hasport Drive Shafts

So thats it hopefully my gearbox woes are at bay for another few years
