Default Silencer

Hey,
Just wondering how do exhaust silencers work and how to ya engage them?Any help would be great!!Thinking of buying a new exhaust system but the cops will only pull me if the exhaust is to loud!!Not going for more than 3"" anyway and won't be getting it till after the summer i'd say[8)]

Cheers,
Rich

Get one that isn't loud, then.

I have a 3.5" or 4" Janspeed stainless on my 16V and it's barely louder than the stock exhaust when you're pootling about.

The Guards are picky in my area when it comes to exhaust's.Alot of lads went to court and got a fine and had to fit silencers to there exhaustAnyway i don't want a big massive exhaust as it only draws to much attention to the car when it comes to cops. Was thinking of getting about a 2" to 3" exhaust no bigger though.I just want the car to look the one bit cooler and not go ott.Anyway just wanted to know how a silencer works for general knowledge

I think the cops in my area are making all the cruisers in the area put silencers in or make them go back to standard exhaust.Sure who know might keep the standard depends on funds

Ive got a 4.5" Ractive back box with a de-cat pipe[}] and it aint really that loud, its a universal back box and the new pipe i ran to it is a fairly small diameter so its keeping it a bit quieter and the de-cat gives it a bit of a rasp through the gears[8D]

You can buy back boxes with an adjustable baffler so you can make it as loud or as quiet as you want, that would probable suit you better if you dont want any hastle with the guards..
