Default nct

The crx went for the nct today
and passed every thing except the noise level
I was watching ur man doing the noise level on the exhaust
he just held the mike couple feet away from the exhaust
I thought they had to have it at certain distance and certain angle
away from the exhaust maybe I wrong
can any body shed some light on this subject
I have 2 half inch stainless steel from front to back with scorpion
twin exhaust 0n it the nct noise level is up to 99db anything above it is a fail I was 113db I was 14db out
So any one had this problem before

congratulations on the pass!

I doubt I'll be of any help here, but at the very least I'll be bumping your thread.

As I'm a thorough novice at these things at the moment. However surely there are silencers for exhausts?

You could even DIY one up fairly easy with a baffle assembly and tack weld or crimp it, inside your pipes.

I am unaware of the NCT doctrine on this sort of thing, but I'd imagine, knowing them, that if they notice your silencer, they frown up on?

Is your exhaust CE marked? They should be within spec...The baffle idea above sound good . Your best bet is to read their testing criteria which should be on the NCT site somewhere, then compare it to what you saw during the test.

I was doing some research on the noise level
the microphone has to be 0.5m from the tip of the exhaust 0.5m in height and within 45 degree angle on a frame and car is rev 1/3 of the rev range of the vehicle but they have to check it when its coming down on the revs not going up i known its there job
to check for noise level but ur man done it wrong by holding the mike
I had a original exhaust on the car with scorpion back box but the original exhaust was started to rot so i got stainless steel made up from manifold back to the scorpion back box i known the stainless made it louder so if the mike was set up properly it would be touch and go on the noise level because of the stainless
so heads up if any is getting tested with stainless steel exhaust
I find a strandard one for the test

Do you know when the db testing came in? I've a scorpion on mine too but its been off the road with awhile.
Did they fit a full through stainless system for you so or just join onto the old one?

You can complain to the test centre if you feel hard done by...
