There were a few issues due to the arseways engine conversion before.
1. There was movement under deceleration. 2. Idle was all over the place. 3. VTEC wouldn't engage. After re-wiring, idle was immediately perfect. One engine mount was beginning to perish, but we tiger sealed the lot just to be sure. This sorted the jolting when decelerating, as the engine was staying in place. A few bushes were replaced at the front. A bit of welding to add strength around the front crossmember was done, and we painted that too for good measure. My new Tegiwa radiator was fitted, we made up and sprayed new mounts for it. I took it for a spin up the M50, wound it up to 5800rpm, there was a burst of dust/smoke out of teh exhaust and VTEC engaged and I nearly fell into the boot. Seemed that VTEC just hadn't been engaged in a number of years. It engages fine now with no smoke at all, very smooth. Engine bay now looks like this...... Still to do is the rocker cover, replace the red pipe for standard and a couple of other bits. Maybe a shorter throttle cable if I get really geeky about it....! |

One of the girls in the house borrows it the odd time. I don't mind, as I never get time to drive it and it gives it a quick run...

So the latest on this.....
Although it was driving fine, and it went through the NCT first time a couple of weeks ago, I've taken it to bits again. I've had a stockpile of parts for quite a while now. Time to get cracking.... Suspension and brakes first. List is as follows: Meister R Zeta S Coilovers Wilwood 4-pot front calipers Carriers and adapter plates to fit, 11" big brake set up Already has goodridge lines fitted Skunk 2 front camber arms Skunk 2 rear camber arms Tanabe rear anti roll bar Extended ball joints to correct angle when lowered I ended up having to get two new Si hubs to get the brake kit to fit, the SiR ones are slightly different. As always, something new crops up every time you change something. I'll have to get two new wheel bearings for the salvaged hubs (Even though mine were fine!), and will change the 4 studs on each side while I'm at it. I replaced both CV boots while in there. Also found a leaky fuel filter and replaced that..... I have the car on a set of temporary 16's at the moment, which hit the arches over bumps, so I've to get some 15's in a hurry. Straight away the suspension is very compliant, but I'll have to get some wheels on it for a proper review. Next up: New studs and wheel bearings New wheels Full tracking, alignment, castor etc.... |
