Alternator problems? Just hit it with a hammer!
So my alternator is on it's way out. I got a quote from Myles Balfe in Phibsboro for a reconditioned one - €195 (ripoff Ireland alive and well). Anyway, I found a lad on Dorset Lane, just off Dorset St who'll recondition it for €90 but I have to take it off and the ABS stuff is in the way, it seems that I have to disassemble the passenger side suspension and whip out the driveshaft to get at the fecker.
Anyway he gave it a gentle tap with a hammer and screwdrive and the alternator light went off - got me into work anyway - a good tip to know that moght stop you getting stranded. So if anyone needs Alternator/Starter motor work try this lad - Tony Heeney - 01-8745927 or 087 2999139

Good stuff. We should actually start off a list of where we find stuff cheap/good to deal with. Could come in handy for people.
ie: Alt/Start Motor Recon. - Tony Heeney - 01-8745927 (087 2999139)- Address etc

Prob cheaper to buy another one in a scrap yard to be honest.
You dont need to remove anything by the way, get under the car and unbolt it from the bracket, then unbolt the bracket from the engine and you can get it out. Make sure you disconnect the battery first. Note: Integra alternators will work but dont have the same range of adjustment with the standard belt, you have to get a slightly shorter one so you can adjust it nice and tight. There also have a slightly higher AMP rating which is nice. Mark.

How long would they last though,
As mark said you should be able to get it out, when id did the timing belt there is a fair bit of room from below, from the top room is non existant with ps, ac and in your case alb.

there's not much room there on the SiR. Any of the guys in the UK with ABS have gone this route. and even if it come's out that way will it go back in again?
I'm not so sure about getting a teg one either, as it seems to be a specific part for the B16A1 - the B16A2 one doesn't fit exactly

rough as dogs... lol.. hehehe betya the alternator brushes were worn out on the alternator..... easy fix. remove a;ternator.. remove 3 8mm headed nuts and take off rear cover, look for the alternator brushbox and remove the philips head screws holding it on.. watch they are usually tight and can strip easilly, once u have the brushbox out go to a local auto electrician and ask for a brush set ti fit it.. brushes are generally around 3 quid a set. simply de-solder the backs of the holders and the brushes spring out,,dont lose the springs or u`ll be like a silly apprentice on the floor lookin for them..re-fit the brushes and springs leaving at least 10mm of brush sticking through.. re-assemble brush pack to alternator.. re-fit alternator to car( shout swear drink tea and smoke fags optional) an u shud be back in business

With ABS in the way it's a case of dismantling the suspension!
