Default Limited Mileage Classic Insurance

I have been online all afternoon trying to sort insurance and I've finally got it sorted. The main switchboard in Axa will tell you the car has to be over 25 years old. I got a contact in the Lucan office through classiccar.ie and they sorted me out.

You must have a main car on a standard policy, you must have 5 years no claims on that policy and you must be over 25.

I got quoted €245 for a 3500 mile policy. He said that when you go for the 5200 mile or 10000 mile policy the cost is more like a standard insurance policy.

The guy I dealt with is Daire Rooney and his number is 01 6283160. Tell him you are a member of the CRX owners club.

So do they insist on it being 25 or will they allow 20 plus years ?

Nope. You have to be over 25 - the car has to be 20

I don't think he asked anything. He sending out a proposal so there may be something in that. I'll let you know when it arrives.

So I got the proposal form yesterday. It was pretty standard. They want details of your main car including proof of NCB. They want the mileage of the insured car but apart from that it's pretty standard. There is the usual notice about failure to disclose relevant information but no specific question on modifications.

How much do ya pay already on your main car. I'm not nosy, just I'm 26, and I have a jeep as main transport. I gave up my civic due to the ridiculous ncb system only accounting to only one vehicle some time ago. After I saved some cash, I reinsured it on 0 no claims. 1st night out for a spin I got the worst hassle I ever got in my life and luckily got away. I was parked eating a burger when this cop pulled up. My car isn't easily insured in fairness due to spec.
Next morning I got a quote of trade insurance at 1200. Sounds steap at 1st, but if ya think of the freedom it allows its worth it. I cancelled both polices and of course, I haven't been pulled or questioned at all, since I got it, in January. It's like they have a fear detector.
But its still nice to know what is the story with classic insurance.

I'm paying 450 for the Verso. It's not exactly a high risk car and I'm considerably older than 26.

My previous non classic quote on the CRX was over 600, so it's practically the same as I was paying for 1 car.

You can forget about First Ireland for a classic policy on a CRX, anyway. [}]

They're a broker who offer classic insurance, so I thought I'd try them out as a couple of people had said they weren't bad. Rang up, the guy takes a few details including the make and age of the car. He then asks me to hang on so he can check to see if the car meets the criteria for classic insurance. A few minutes later, he's back saying the car doesn't meet the criteria because....wait for it....it was a mass-produced car! Well, fcuk me but that's news!! Still, I guess that means we don't have to struggle to get parts, eh lads??

Apparently Minis, similarly-aged Mercs and 911s aren't mass-produced, then....
