Default Glass roof??

Hey folks, Can anyone tell me how the glass roofs are fitted, Can the glass panel be put into a VT or is the roof structure different.
My roof has some annoying rust, but its only in the middle. I can get a glass roof for a good price but would it be a nightmare???

Any help would be great thanks [^]

You talking about replacing the Glass in the Glassroof or fitting an Actual Glassroof to a tin Top?

If it's the latter don't bother - complete nightmare unless you pay a pro big money and then still you're weakening the structure of the car.

Yeah i was talking about the latter.
I was hoping it was just a case of cutting a large section of the roof and bonding in the glass roof

Unfortunately no, you'd need to cut it from the Pillars.

The Glassroof has a slightly bigger thickness of tin where the Glassroof resides and then you'd need the roof lining etc.

For 1 you'd weaken the life out of the structure. It'd never look right imo.

I've seen pics of it done from the Pillars or a Glassroof replaced where one was broken/cracked but never just retro-fitted in there!

My advice is check over on the yanks forums.A lot have cut and fit just to make the car more JDM.Ya might find a write up somewhere.

If not,how bad is the rust?sand it down and respray may be best.

The rust is only minor but the steel is very weak, I've replaced roof skins on eg civics before without any problems (one of my mates is gifted with a tig welder) but eg civic parts are a lot more common and usually cheap

if you are good at drilling out spot welds and doing them again you will do it as long as you are neat and tidy. And if you can get the glass out in the first place.

Guy over on honda-tech has done it, cant rem the name off hand sorry.

you should register with http://www.cr-xcentral.com/forums/index.php, as they have several Glass roof conversion guides.

I've done it on mine [8D]
