bodywork and rust prevention
Today the crx passed the NCT with flying colors. Have been looking into getting the bodywork done as i can now afford it. Am thinking of going with a panel beater that does classic car restoration. It will probably work out more expensive but you cant put a price on experience. Heres 2 that have excellent websites with very impressive resoration builds:
http://www.classiccarworkshop.ie/contactus.html http://www.classiccarcentre.ie/about.html The 2nd company are awaiting detailed photos to give me a rough quote. The first company have recommended this epoxy mastic http://www.rustaway.ie/catalog/produ...products_id=28 for sale in ireland as a rust preventer. It looks the job to me anyways!

I just said id google a few things about rust preventon and epoxies as its something that will effect all our cars if not treated.
Epoxy-Mastic is a two component Epoxy paint composed of very short chain molecules with very low surface tension. This allows the paint to flow into all of the pits and troughs on the steels surface ensuring a tough penetrating primary bond. This is the best kind of bond you can get with a paint finish. Excellent penetration and adhesion equals exceptional mechanical strength. http://autotrader.edirectory.co.uk/a...ck/pid/4336113 more products i came accross: rustbullet (10 year guarantee) and por15 http://rustbullet.ie/index.php?main_...434f1474d5b2c5 http://www.rustbullet.com/Comparison/ProdComp.asp http://www.por15.com/ Here's a product for treating rust in general. Not meant to be mixed with car paint but could be good for just rusty parts http://www.boatpaint.co.uk/datasheets/deks_olje/257.pdf you can buy it here: http://www.albany.ie/index.php?page=...mart&Itemid=11 they advertise it more for paint but its explained in better detail the above link. How does Owatrol Oil control rust on a metal surface? Because a rusty surface is irregular or scaly, the paint will not spread across it easily or penetrate into the surface irregularities, instead it will sit on top trapping any moisture and air beneath, which will continue to feed the rust. Owatrol Oil is highly penetrating and when applied to this kind of surface will drive out the moisture and air, replacing it, so stopping the rust and forming a firm foundation to paint on. Adding Owatrol Oil to the paint helps it flow into the irregularities, penetrating air pockets and providing a moisture barrier. All thse products sound good but i firmly believe that the only way to permanently treat rust is to remove it completely, either by grinding it away cutting it out or shotblasting etc. 'Chemically treating' it will help, but it WILL come back eventually. |

Yea the idea was to sort the bodywork with as much new metal and then protect the inner arches with some sort of epoxy mastic. Dont worry, im not going to spray over rust
I'll get a quote anyways, just waiting to get some photos to send off to them.

ok, so cars in being done. Want to protect the arches now before i put it back on the road. Would cavity wax/underbody wax be sufficient. Just spray it in and spread it around?
