Default Need advice on engine for ef8

Been looking for an engine for my ef8 shell and would like to keep it original as much as I can. I am on a very tight budget and have come across a B16a2 complete engine, gearbox, exhaust mani, inlet mani, loom and ecu all for 650 euro.

Just wondering should I go for this or should I hold out for a SiR b16 engine, also what problems would I encounter if I went ahead with installing the b16a2 into my ef8?

I've never installed an engine before so any advice would be very helpfull.

Thanks!

BTW the B16a2 is a vti from a eg civic and I also need to get running gear and drives for the ef8, so are all these going to be compatible? I'm all confused, haven't got a clue...

IMO, you've just got a pretty mint SIR shell. Hold out for an SIR engine that will bolt right in.

So is your car originally a vtec? If so, You have no problems ahead what so ever. I'm sorry if I'm not aware of the full spec of your car if its posted somewhere else on the site. If you can be as specific as possible, on this thread I will gladly advise you as much as possible.
Now, even if it was originally vtec there will be some minor upgrades required to unlock the potential of your newer motor. If it was B series, drives and box will not need replacement, unless they are tired.
The engine mounts will work out easily for you.
The extra little feature's, would most likely, be an, apexi vtec controller, which is an air/fuel controller and provided your original OBD0 ecu is vtec, it will easily make up for the difference in fuel requirements.

ummmm... im near sure eg vti's arent obb0... so youll need to utilise ur old box (or do a hydro conversion to use the a2 box) and youll need to convert to obd1/2 depending on what an eg vit is..(conversion looms readily available) and youll need the correct ecu as well.

also is an a2 not from an ekvti? i though eg's were b16a1

Once the engine is originally vtec from the crx, it will not really require an ecu upgrade. Obd0 is crx or 87-92. Obd1 is 92-95. Only differences between the 2 vtec engine's (vti to sir) is compression and the updated distributor and cams. It will work. And stay away from OBD2.

Hold out for a B16a I'd say. I know a Lad who's had 3 bottom ends go in B16a2 in recent times. Maybe he's just been unlucky but I'd prefer a Jap one to a UK one any day myself.

Thanks for all your help lads!!!
Mind made up now.
gonna hold out for a SiR B16a, Really want to keep this SiR as original as possibe but I dont mind uprating a few things while its a bare shell at the mo.
Really can't wait to get stuck in, so forgive my inpatiance when I was thinking of putting B16a2 in her. Just have to be patient and do the job right.
I'm taking delivery (if all goes well) next weekend of my glassroof crx. Ollie from honda heaven is collecting her bringing to my place. Been busy Knocking down a wall in my garage to make room for her, now there is room for my 16valver and me SiR.....LOL

Thanks again lads!!
Mcd22, Ya know your stuff, is alright to annoy you from time to time if I come across any probs with my project??
