Default Alarm & Central Locking

So the central locking on the car died a death. Auto electrician reckons the relays in the alarm are toast and says that modern alarms haven't got enough welly to operate 3rd part actuators. He says hte solution is to replace the alarm, and fit a separate central locking unit to operate the doors.

I know my 1.5x gave 5 years without any trouble, so I figure it's not impossible to get something that will work. Anyone got any suggestions? Preferably something that won't break the bank.

I bought a central locking kit from Maplins and a Toad alarm. No issues so far 3-4 years down the line. I paid ~€40 for the CL kit and less that £200 for the alarm on eBay.

This is the kit from Maplin: http://www.maplin.co.uk/central-door...g-system-12303, not sure wha the Irish price is.

Who's the electrician, BTW, is it Brendan in Finglas Auto Electric? He seems like a good guy.

It's a mate of my da's. Where are Finglas Auto Electric?

Just rang MDS out in Liffey Valley. He does a Clifford kit supplied and fitted for 250, so that might be a goer. I already have the central locking actuators so he said he would hook up to them. I need parking sensors for the new Verso too so he said he'd do me a deal - just waiting to hear back.

Stephen in MDS is doing me a deal @ 220. Can't say fairer than that.

Sorry, they're actually called Ace Auto Electric, in Jamestown Road.

He sorted out my recent wiring issues, he knew his stuff.

I know the place. Good to know he's worth his salt (I always thought it looked a but dodgy!) I'm gonna go with MDS anyway - I have the Verso booked in on Saturday morning.

The Rex is going in for a service next week and I'll get the alarm done once I get it taxed and insured.

Just had the rex up in Ace Auto Repair. Burnt out cable under the steering column means I've been driving with no brake light for god knows how long. [:0]

Sorted and back to me within the day. 70 notes - fairly reasonable.

Nice one Paul!
