Default maplin central locking kit

went into the city today and got myself one of these. its for a four door car and gives the wiring loom and 4 actuaters. it works off your car alarm.
it wasnt as easy as i thought it would be to fit since its designed for a 4 door the loom is too short for the long doors of the crx, but i depends on where you put the actuator. i fitted one so far an i placed it at the back of the door pushing up and down the door lock.
the first thing i did was wire the whole thing up to see if it was working then i trimmed the loom down by cutting off the wires for the back doors. i later used these wires to extend the wires to reach the actuator.
then i wrapped all the wires going to each door in insulation tape. there are 5 wires going to the front actuators so to tidy them up and to make it easier to pull them throught he car i did this. there is also an actuator control box, power wires and signal wires from the alarm. the positive wire a feed out through the fire wall but the negative wire was further down the line so it was either put it onto the battery and leave the actuator wire even shorter or bolt it onto the body. i bolted it onto an existing earth wire that was besides the lever for the bonnet.
it took me a while to think of where i was gonna put out the wires to the door. i eventually had to jack up the car take off the wheel take off the plastic splash guard under the wing. there was an unused grommet next to the where the bonnet cable was coming out so i drilled that out and pulled the wires through. from this place it was easy to access the inside of the door.the door was closed and i got a drill and drilled under the loom for the electric windows so the new wires wouldnt be seen. this was the point where the wires where going into the door. i puilled them through to find they were about a foot too short so i cut all the connections leaving enough on the ends of them to join them back up again i cut the excess wires into foot lenghts and added them to the ends of the wires then i added the connections. there was only two colour wires that were going to the rear actuators and five colours for the front. so i had to join different colours to each other, but the excess on the connectors was the right colours so i made sure i joined up the right connector to the righr wire. when all the wires were joined i just wrapped up all the wires in tape and left the ends so as the right could be joined to the wires of the actuator.
trying to find a spot for the actuator was a bit tricky but i placed it beside the bottom of the runner for the window. ther was nowhere i could see to bolt the bracket on. im sure if it was taught about more a place could be found. but i bolted off the runner and tack welded the bracket onto the runner. the welding was as rough as a whores knickers because of the tickness of material but i managed to get a few good tacks on it. i bolted the actuator and clamped the rod that came with the kit to the existing rod for the lock.i hooked the wires up and it worked anyway, must fit the other one when i have time next weekend. its a handy thing to have and it only costs €37. i got no instructions in the box, but i reckon ive got it sorted.

......and breathe!

I'm hopefully going to be fitting one of these tomorrow evening to finish off the alarm in the SiR (well a mate who actually knows what he's doing will be doing most of it!).

I will, but it looks like it's been delayed again. Tomorrow (Thursday) at the earliest now.
