Default My Flint black EF8...

I bought this from a guy in Wales in June 2009. I had the built engine from my last EF8 done by my good friend Bob so Eoin Mc. swapped this out for me and I sold the one that was in it.

The car spent 8 years in the UK so it had Rust on the Sills and Rear Arches. I drove it for a few weeks and then decided to get the Rust sorted out before the winter came in. The car was under sealed which saved the rest of the Tin!

My local Panel Beater & Sprayer looked after that for me. He’s currently only done 1 side so I’m gonna get the other side looked after before the Summer’s out – I just wanted the car back as it had been away for a while.

I replaced the drivers Wing as the original was tatty and had fillers in it. The Sprayer has done the Wing along with the drivers side Sill and rear ¼ panel. I still need to get my Bonnet sprayed as it’s faded and I’ve gone this far so why stop now!

Below is the Spec of the Engine / Car as it is now;

1990 Flint Black Honda CRX EF8 siR w/B16a

Engine
CTR (B16B) Cams
CTR Valve Springs and Retainers
AEM V2 cold feed
New Gates Timing belt, Honda pump and Honda pulley.
Aircon removed as it was shagged and Engine cooling is better now
Dashpot removed (not necessary)
Spoon Thermostat

All the seals and gaskets were replaced for Honda OE ones - Bill of a little over €400 for these alone.

Socketed and Chipped ECU w/Launch control. VTEC engagement moved. Timing and Ignition tweaked.

Dyno’d @ WCP;

Transmission
Y1 Gearbox (non LSD)

Exterior
JDM front plate with tilt bracket
Removed rear spoiler, wiper and motor
Spoon Style Carbon Mirrors
16v Carbon Spoiler
15" Oz Superturismos
Carbon fibre Sunroof
Honda OE Sunroof gasket
Spoon CF Mirrors - €90
Drivers side Inner CV Joint Boot
Drivers sides Steering Rack Gaitor
O/S Inner Tie Rod
Clutch Pedal Rubber
Passenger side Steering Rack Gaitor
Rear O/S Caliper [New]
Rear N/S Caliper [New]
Front Big Brake Calipers & Pads
Front 282mm Grooved discs
Rear Grooved discs & pads
XTD Stage 2 Clutch kit
Full Stainless Custom Exhaust system from Manifold back

Chassis
Diayama fully adjustable Coilovers (damper & height) lowered 45mm
New Honda Track Rods

Interior
OMP Targa Steering wheel in suede
Carbon gear knob
Standard siR seats
8" sub & Amp Enclosure

Car as it is now;

The following parts are going to be fitted to the car in the coming week/s – Eoin Mc is doing this for me – I couldn’t fault his work and he’s a perfectionist so that’s good enough for me. I’m also researching going down the route of boosting the B16a in the next 6 months or so. Currently I’m looking at what kit I’d like and what works best.

I’m upgrading the Brakes as the stock ones are terrible. Even though the car only weight ~1 Tonne it doesn’t stop too well and the wheels lock up under any sort of hard(ish) braking. This is a popular upgrade by CR-X owners and relatively cheap too. Larger discs along with the bigger Calipers, new pads, braided lines and the Motul RBF 660 should help go a long way.

The standard brakes rate about 5/10 – the upgrade comes in at 8/10.

Also the wheels have to go – I’m gonna go for something with a nice dish – probably Black with polished lip. For the moment I’m gonna get Paul (C-Rex) to spray them Black w/Red lip, Carbon centre caps and red Oz logo/writing.

Here’s what’s to go on now.

Service Parts (Honda Fuel Filter, Oil & HAMP Oil filter)

282mm Front slotted Mintex discs

XTD Stage 2 Clutch kit

3rd & 4th Synchros plus Sleeve set from Synchrotech

Motul RBF 660 Racing Brake Fluid plus Goodridge braided hoses

252mm Rear slotted Mintex discs & pads

2nd user Rover 620i turbo Calipers with pads

I’ve a few more plans for it but I’d like to get finished what I’ve started at the moment and who knows then I might have a complete change of Heart and buy something else or keep modding this.

I’ll try and get as many pics as I can during it upgrades and keep the Thread up to date.

Any suggestions / recommendations and comments are welcomed.

Nice work Ronan, car has come on heaps and bounds since you got it, can't wait to see it at some stage. I agree on the disc brake thing, cant have enough of that, I learn from the past[:I] Photos look very well too, it will be interesting to see it with black wheels!!

Thanks guys.

That Red H is actually Orange!!

I need to get the Bonnet resprayed anyway so I'm getting the badge holes filled in and sprayed over and not putting back any badge on it.

3rd and 4th were ok until I went to Bishopscourt and ragged the fook out of it!!

Once you get it back ronan take the orange badge off and replace with a silver one.. It just looks wrong on it

Cant wait to do the wheels too to see if it helps them any bit.. Keep the car then will ya!! You'd be mad to sell it

Looking good Ronan!

Agree with the lads, the red/orange 'H' badge does nothing for it.
Should look alot better when you get it removed.

And the wheels done black with a red lip should look cool! Give it a real mean look[8D]

Keep up the good work man![^]

Well, I sprayed the Wheels - don't have a pic of them on the car yet but here's a few at the start and finished product - very happy with the results (Satin black, 4 coats, no lacquer)

My Bonnet is away with the Sprayer atm but will have it back tomorrow or Tuesday and I'll take proper pics them when I give the car a wash.
